Notes on Lafayette Cemetery #1

Online listing and picture of the Schloegel tomb: http://www.lafayettecemetery1.com/2_000/2_028.html

Based on an 12/1/1990 email from Jack Pastorek:

J. Anton Schloegel was a tailor in the French Quarter.

George Bauer (Not in Tomb) married Anne Redel.
They had a daughter named Barbara Bauer who married J. Anton Schloegel.
Together they had four children:

  • Louisa Schloegel (married Adolph Schumann and then George S. Jacquillard)
  • Rosalie Schloegel (married John Pastorek)
  • George Anthony (descendants lived in Miss.)
  • Regina (who died at age 2)

When J. Anton Schloegel died, Barbara Bauer married L.J. Adlebert Koch.
They had one daughter:

  • Julia Koch, who married Constantine Itro, and then Salvador George.

Louisa had no children with either husband.

No reference as to how Regina (2 yrs.) died, but that’s probably who Aunt Gee [Regina Pastorek Derbes] was named for?

Constantine Itro was a night watchman at the French Market in the French Quarter; his first family was killed in the October 2, 1893 hurricane that destroyed the island of Cheniere Caminada.  [A graphic account of the destruction appeared in the Daily Picayune relayed by the priest of the island, Father Grimaux. The death roll in the article shows Constantine Itro was the sole survivor of his family of seven. More on Constantine Itro here.]

Salvador George was a river boat pilot.

There is a Bauer tomb in St. Roch Cemetery.
